To fulfill the growing needs of this town in the field of higher education, the Bhadra education society established the Bhadra college during the year 1968-69 started PUC and BA courses, later in the year 1973-74 it introduced B.Com courses also.
An evening college was run by the same management from 1969-70 to cater the needs of those people of Bhadravathi and its surrounding areas who were deprived of day college facilities under various circumstances. The persons who joined the evening college had utilized this opportunity to its maximum extent, got degrees and changed their life styles itself.
The VISL and MPM managements had taken the Bhadra College in 1975. In 1976 the college was shifted to the new campus in New Town, Bhadravathi , the VISL was magnanimous in its gesture of donating the entire property worth not less than five crores to the college which was originally meant to house its apprentice training school.
The Bhadra College thus was taken over , renamed as Sir.M.Visveswaraya Arts , Commerce and Science College . The campus is well facilitated by a tar road and possesses a well laid out sprawling garden. A fountain in its midst adds to the beauty of its serene atmosphere. In 1976-77 , B.Sc course was introduced along with science optional at the PUC level with Physics, Chemistry , Mathematics , Botany and Zoology as the science subjects. Laboratories for practical classes were also added to complete the scenario.
The strength of the college was growing day-by-day and year-by-year. For the growing needs of the situation, the management had decided to bifurcate the science faculty from Arts and Commerce. In the year 1986-87 the science section was shifted to a newly built majestic building at Bommanakatte, a suburban place of Bhadravathi in about 10.5 acres of land. The atmosphere of the new building is very ideal for educational institution and is away from the city and free from noises. The Arts and Commerce wings continued to function in the old premises.
The new building is very spacious , and it consists of well furnished rooms , well equipped laboratory with modern and sophisticated instruments , separate library building equipped with books of immense value and adequate sports facilities. A cycle stand , a reading room, a separate ladies waiting room , an auditorium , a separate staff room for each department with common staff room for languages and mathematics department , as well as a platform , which enables to hold open-air activities. All these amenities complete the necessary infrastructure of the college. The VISL trust was formed soon after to manage the affairs of both the colleges more efficiently. The Government of Karnataka took over both the colleges on 31-08-1995 . A college development council came into existence during 2001-02. Formerly it was headed by Sri M.J.Appaji the popular local MLA who also happens to head the list of luminaries of the college. Now Sri Sangamesh is the local MLA and the president of the College Development Council.
