Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Vedic Vishwavidyalaya, Katni was established by the Act No. 37 of 1995 of Madhya Pradesh Government. It is a statutory University like any other UGC recognized University. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was the first chancellor of the university. The University is an affiliating university having jurisdiction over entire Madhya Pradesh. The university has its head office at Karoundi Village of Katni District in the state while its distance education office is located at Vijaya Nagar of Jabalpur and it is also a member of Association of Indian Universities(AIU). Not declared fit to receive Central/UGC assistance under Section 12 (B) of the UGC Act-1956.

The University offers Post Graduate (Acharya), Graduate (Shastri) and Diploma (Praman Patra) Programmes in Maharishi Ved Vigyan, Jyotish, Yog, Sthaptya Ved-Vastu Vidya and Vedic Swasthya Vidhan. Other than these programs, one-year diploma course is also conducted. The university imparts training and education through its campus and study centers in distance mode. The students are imparted education with Use of audio-video programmes, Effective face to face interaction with faculty, Project work, Work related field projects, and Interaction with international faculty and experts through telecast and video lectures.
