GMC, Srinagar was established in 1959. The aim of GMC is to spread quality education and to provide basic health services to the people of J&K by producing doctors of high caliber and good skills. For many years college was ranked number 4 in all India ranking of medical colleges. Unfortunately, due to some political issues in J&K state, the college lost its shine. But after 10 years of lack of enthusiasm, college regain its glory and has promised to grab the old prestige again. The M.B.B.S course in G.M.C is divided into 4 parts namely 1st M.B.B.S, 2nd M.B.B.S, Pre-Final and Final Year. The Medical college provides Medical Education at the Under Graduate level and Post Graduate level (MD/MS and Diploma courses) in its various associated hospitals.

Placement

 Around 100 students graduate every year from GMC, Srinagar. Placement cell is not available in the college.
