The college was established in 1967 for providing technical manpower initially in the fields of Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. Since then the college has continuously evolved to meet the changes in the field of Engineering. Undergraduate Courses in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Computer Engineering and Information Technology besides Five postgraduate courses in the fields of Foundation Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electronics Communication & Instrumentation Engineering, Microelectronics Engineering, and Power & Energy Engineering Introduced. The College is offering full time as well as part-time post graduate courses. The college is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and is funded byGovernment of Goa. All the courses offered by the college presently affiliated to Goa University.

 The Goa College of Engineering (GEC- Goa ) is well known for its academic excellence and is often considered as the 'first stop' for a large number of industries and other organizations for recruiting undergraduate students. We truly appreciate the faith bestowed on us from several organizations and we look forward to continuing our relationship with them. The Placement Office is run and managed by the Prof. Vikas Chodankar and students and handles all aspects of placements at GEC-Goa. Right from contacting companies to managing all logistics of arranging for tests, pre-placement talks and conducting final interviews the Placement officials and volunteers provide their best possible assistance to the recruiters. The hospitality and the functioning of Placement Office is applauded and well received by the visiting recruiters every year. With over 40 companies contacting each year Placement Office has maintained a prolific placement record among Engineering Colleges in Goa
