In 1919 a group of intellectuals with a vision and zeal established Anjuman Hami-e-Muslimeen, a charitable education trust, aimed at imparting modern and religious education to the residents of Bhatkal and surrounding areas.
This journey of hundred's of miles began with a single step" Education is the highway that leads to a nation and community's progress and prosperity. But while other communities in India have travelled far and wide on this path, the Muslim community lags far behind. The accumulation of knowledge is a focal point in Islamic faith as the very first revelation to the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) - and through him all Muslims - was to 'read in the name of God." Muslims took this decree to heart and began to read, not only the Quran and Hadith, but also delved into subjects as diverse as astronomy, physics, philosophy, mathematics, medicine etc. Sadly, since then Muslims have not done justice to their impressive pedigree and history. Their economic and social progress remains stunted, as they have neglected education. The great schools of learning which Islamic conversation was famous for are lost. We need to rebuild them and re-lay the foundation for our future generations.
