The school was established in 1989 on land donated by Sri. Donavalli Gurunatham garu and Smt. Donavalli Balamma garu.
There are around 470-490 students, with around 80 students in each class. The staff number 25. Science groups MPC(Maths,Physics,Chemistry) and BiPC (Biology,Physics,Chemistry) are taught in classes XI and XII.

It was established in 1989 by the Department of Education, MHRD. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas were planned to set up in all the districts of the country in order to provide an education to children from predominantly rural areas. They form a part of the system of gifted education.
