Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Karaikal was inaugurated on 15.12.1986 by Mr.L.SRIDHARAN, the then Chairman, Vidyalaya Management Committee with a strength of 72 pupils in Class VI, a significant feature of education under the new education policy came into focus, serving equally well for different classes of students with social, economic and cultural disparities. Initially the school functioned in a rented building situated at Thalatheru; later on it was shifted to its permanent site at Rayanpalayam. Except the Academic block, all the other buildings such as Administrative Block, Boy’s & Girl’s Dormitories, Principal’s Residence, Warden’s Quarters, Staff Quarters were handed over to the School by the construction Agency in a phased manner.
The First Batch of students appeared for AISSE (Class-X) in 1991 nd came up with flying Colours securing 100% result and Ist batch of XII students appeared for AISSCE in March 1993, Science Stream 71% Humanities 92%. In AISSE March’97 our Vidyalaya secured 100% results. In AISSE March’99 our Vidyalaya secured 67% & in AISSCE 80.7%. We secured 100% in AISSE & AISSCE held in March 2000. We secured 100% in AISSE & AISSCE held in March’2001. We secured 100% in AISSE & AISSCE held in March 2002. In the Year 2003 we have achieved 70% in AISSC and 86% in AISSCE. In the year 2004 we have achieved 97% in AISSC and 96% in AISSC. In the year 2005 both in AISSE and AISSCE we have achieved 100% result. In the year 2006 our school is one among the top 15 schools in Hyderabad region achieving 100% pass with 75% class average in class XII and 96% pass in class X.

Admission to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya,Karaikal (JNV Karaikal) is based on a selection test which is a common one for all the JNVs across the country. The admission is to class VI and a candidate should be studying in class V in a government/government recognized school for being eligible for applying for class VI Selection Test known as JNVST (Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test)election and Admission
Ø Selection in the test will not vest any right on the candidates to secure admission into the JNV. At the time of seeking actual admission, each selected candidate will have to produce all relevant certificates, as prescribed by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. Until admission, the selection is provisional.
Ø In case of any dispute, the decision of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti shall be final and binding on the candidates.
Eligibility Criteria:-
Only the candidates from the district where the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya has been opened are eligible to apply for admission. However, the district where JNV is opened and is bifurcated at a later date, the old boundaries of the district are considered for the purpose of eligibility for admission into JNVST, in case a new vidyalaya has not started in the newly bifurcated district as yet.
For Urban candidates:-
A candidate who has studied in a school located in an Urban area even for a single day of a session in any class III, IV& V will be considered as an Urban Candidate. Urban areas are those which are so defined in 2001 census or through a subsequent Government Notification. All other areas will be considered as rural.
Reservation of Seats:-
At least 75% of the seats in a district are filled by candidates selected from rural areas and remaining seats are filled from Urban areas of the district.
One third of the total seats are filled up by girls.
There is a provision for reservation of 3% seats for Disabled Children ( i.e. Orthopaedically Handicapped, Hearing Impaired and Visually Handicapped)
CURRICULUM : The Vidyalaya is affiliated to C.B.S.E. and Affiliation is provisionally extended till 31-3-2008 vide letter No.CBSE/Aff./29502/2002/5830-32 dated 28-11-2002. There is Science stream in Senior Secondary section. -. NCERT syllabus is followed from 7th Std. & State Board syllabus is followed in 6th class. Co-curricular activities, Games and Sports developing the spirit of enquiry, dignity of labour, self reliance, self service and inculcation of moral, cultural values form the integral part of the curriculum designed and adopted as per Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti rules. The curriculum also provides opportunities for developing leadership qualities, acquiring desired values, team spirit, hard work, self-discipline etc. |

CO-CURRICULUR ACTIVITIES : Co-curricular activities are now considered as an integral part of the education system. The quality of schools depends upon the educational experience provided to the pupils. It is very essential to provide a variety of activities to the pupils such activities will contribute to a long, happy and normal life and such well adjusted citizens will be able to ensure National development in all spheres. |
The Vidyalaya has a very rich tradition of sports. Our students have been winning many prestigious awards and prizes in the filed. Here is a list of very outstanding participants who brought laurels to the institution.
WATER SUPPLY : The School has adequate supply of water through underground pipelines. The Vidyalaya has 3 wells one near the new block one near the Boys’ Hostel and the other in between Girls’ and Boys’ Wardens’ Quarters. Hand Pumps are also installed for watering inside and outside of the Boys’ Hostel, near S.P.Shed, inside Girls’ Hostel and opposite to the Staff Quarters. Our longstanding demand of getting drinking water from commune Panchayat was fulfilled in the year 2004-05. | |
SPORTS AND GAMES : 400m track is available in the vidyalaya. Kabbadi coach from SAI came to our Vidyalaya to select our children for the coaching and the list of selected children has been sent and approval; is awaited. The Physical Education Department of the Vidyalaya has adequate number of sports articles and equipments with two basketball courts. | |
TRANSPORT : The Vidyalaya has a Mahindra Van bought in 1993 and is being used for all transport purpose. | |
MEDICAL AID : The Vidyalaya has a qualified Nurse to give Medical aid daily to all the inmates. Medical Instruction Room with all possible medical kits and all the necessary medicines is available in the academic block. A Medical Officer from PHC Varichikudy visits the Vidyalaya twice a week as a consultant. |

SCIENCE LAB : The Science laboratories are adequately equipped to conduct practical classes. Separate laboratories are available for conducting prescribed practicals for physics, chemistry and biology | |
LIBRARY : The Vidyalaya has a well-equipped Library. Adequate numbers of books/magazines are subscribed and these are very useful to the students & staff. There are around 7000 books available in Tamil, English and Hindi. | |
FURNITURE : The Administrative Block and class rooms are adequately furnished. Partially furnished quarters are provided to the Staff. | |
THE MESS : The Vidyalaya Mess has three permanent employees and 4 casual workers under the Catering Assistant appointed by the Samiti. Food is prepared and served hygienically. Mess committee meeting is conducted regularly once in a month to review the quality of food provided and to improve the standard further. | |
