D.A.V. Public School,Chennai was founded in the year 1990.From a very modest beginning,today  D.A.V.P.S Chennai  enjoys a position of eminence among the city schools.The school has a strength of over 2600 students and nearly 120 teaching and non teaching staff members. Academic brilliance alone will not suffice in today's competitive world, hence our school lays emphasis on the holistic development of the students by encouraging participation in extra curricular activities and application of information technology and multimedia in the 'Teaching - Learning process". Human excellence through Competence, Conscience and Compassion is the vision of the school. ADMISSION PROCEDURE:

Pre.K.G         -       2 1/2 years as on 31st May in the year of application

L.K.G            -       3 1/2 years as on 31st May in the year of application

U.K.G            -      4 1/2 years as on 31st May in the year of application

 Admission to D.A.V Public school is through an "Entrance Test" , even for students from other D.A.V public schools.

 Admission depends on availability of a vacancy in that class and also the option of II language and III language sought.

 Entrance Test will be conducted on the dates notified by  principal.

  31st July is the last date for new admission into the school except when the student is on transfer from another D.A.V Public school. Admission will be granted based on the student's performance in the entrance test, submission of T.C endorsed by the competent  authority of the previous school along with the progress report of the recent test / examination passed. The admission will be purely based on merit and other eligibility criteria.

The admission test shall be held in the following subjects

A. Classes I to V                    -        English, II-Language and Mathematics

B. Classes VI to IX                -        English ,II-Language ,Mathematics and III Language

C. Class XI

    Science Group                    -        English, Science and Mathematics

    Commerce Group               -        English and Mathematics

D. Admissions to class X / XII is not given to students from other schools, except to the students from other D.A.V Public School, under  special  circumstances. Attestation of the documents required by the school office should be done by the principal of the previous D.A.V Public School.

Eligibility to Admission to Standard XI:

A student seeking admission to class XI will be eligible for admission only if he / she:

a) has been studying in a school recognized by or affiliated to the C.B.S.E board or any other recognized board of Secondary  education in India

b) has passed qualifying or equivalent examination making her / him eligible for admission to that class. Qualifying examination means an examination - passing of which makes a student eligible for admission to a particular class; and 'equivalent examination' means an examination conducted by any  recognized board of secondary examination.

Academic Courses Offered:

a) Core subject: English, Compulsory for all.

b) The following elective groups are offered and the applicant should indicate clearly his/her choice.

Group-I      -  English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Group-II     -  English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Computer Science

Group III    -  English, Accountancy, Business Studies , Economics, and Mathematics.

LIBRARY

Air conditioned "State of the art" library houses the latest books, magazines, periodicals, audio / video cassettes and educational software and is a 'store house of knowledge' . It facilitates extra learning both for the teacher and the learner.

    School has class libraries which are also a rich source of a variety of books. There is a separate 'reference' area earmarked for teachers. Computers are available in school library with internet facility for students to browse information under supervision.

LABORATORIES

Science laboratories

The science department  has  spacious, well equipped and "state of the art" laboratory each in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Computer Laboratory

    School has an air-conditioned  Computer laboratory on each floor. These laboratories facilitate better comprehension of the basic principles and concepts by stimulating the imagination, observation and reasoning faculty. In this modern high-tech world, students need to be computer literate and to be fully equipped in its applications.

    Computer Aided Instruction (CAI) plays an important role in the student learning process as lessons learnt through audio and visual aids get etched in the young minds. School has purchased very good software to facilitate teaching-learning process from class I-XII.

Digital English Laboratory

    'Digital English Lab' and 'Social Studies Resource room' are on the anvil as we believe that "Hands on Experience will go  a long way in the "Teaching Learning Process".

Mathematics Laboratory

        The School has two well equipped Mathematics laboratories for Junior and Senior students.

AUDIO VISUAL ROOM

    School has a well equipped and air conditioned Audio Visual room for use of students and staff to enhance "Teaching Learning Process". The room is equipped with a CD Player , VCD Player, LCD Projector, T.V, a computer and e-beam Interactive White board. Arrangements have been made in this room for participating in the educational programmes televised through IGNOU for both teachers and students.

I-CLASS ROOMS

    All Classrooms from Std VI-XII have been converted into Audio Visual Rooms. Each of them has LCD Projector, touch screen Board and Mimio equipment.  Each class has a Laptop to facilitate the teaching of the digital content. Each class has also the facility for Video conferencing thereby enabling the students to learn through interaction.

ACTIVITY ROOM

    School houses a very large activity room equipped with more than 250 types of teaching aids for the use of Pre Primary to Std II to facilitate language development, Social development,  Mathematical and analytical skills apart from areas for block play, Story telling and Role Play.

HEALTH CARE

    Great care is given to health and hygiene. School has a air conditioned sick room  for basic first aid and rest. Annual comprehensive health check is carried out by a team of doctors from a reputed hospital. All the staff members and students are insured (24 hours) for accidents with TATA AIG.
