Tight loan system by NUS UK to make postgraduation adaptable for poor Students.

Gurpreet, Published On:24-Nov-2012

The National Union Of Students(NUS) has warned UK government about the postgraduation study becoming accesible only to overseas and rich students in the absence of a tough new loan system.Introduction od tightly controlled loans to allow students from poorer backrounds to access postgraduation professional courses like law, accountancy and journalism is being advocated by the NUS.

As per the reports, only those entitledto full maintenance grant as undergraduates should be eligible to appply and strong refrences would be required to give evidense of talent. However the rate of repayment, would be very high as it would over high achieving future professionals. In addition, the report also suggests that mature graduates should be welcomed and those looking for a change in job for many years should be bared.

The above proposals are made by the NUS to fight against the present system where access depends not on ability of the students, but the ability to pay upfront. The other proposals include a generalmastre's degree, where loans should be restricted to £66000 and repayable once the student is earning  £15,000 a year rather than the £21,000 a year boundary for repaying undergraduate loan.

The report by Higher Educatiob Commission that reported employers are being forced to hire foreign staff and in some worst cases even quit Britain because of growing postgraduation crisis has been followed by the NUS revealed that UK is one of the three countries in which less than 10% of students pursue postgraduation studies.
