Local volunteers gimmick to shave their heads in support to childhood cancer research
SAULT STE. MARIE, ON - The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity apporinated to increasing the money for childhood cancer research, will host one of its signature head-shaving events at Branch 25, The Royal Canadian Legion on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 7 p.m. where approximately 10 volunteers will shave their heads in solidarity with kids with cancer and raise money for childhood cancer research. By shaving their heads with kids they think of that they might put contribution towards the most occuring disease for which cure has not been toatally found yet. Research in various dRnd section is still going on in this respct so as to cure the disease as early as possibkle as it already has increased its range of occuring from the adult to kids as well
Now, The question arises that why all have cleaned their heads?
Worldwide in every 3 minitues one kid suffered from cancer, and in that five children in which detection of cancer is found not even survive.
With only 4 percent of all federal cancer research funding dedicated to pediatric cancer research, St. Baldrick’s Foundation volunteers, supporters and donors are needed to continue to help children live with and through these diseases.
After being personally affected by acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) at the age of 11, Will Stephenson has decided to dedicate his life to making a difference.
With the aid of co-organizers Meghan Gardner, Logan Brown and Nicole Boniferro, they are determined to make this event a success.
The event will be packed with entertainment, including performances by celtic group Connor’s Dilemma, a bake sale, a silent auction filled with amazing prizes, delicious food catered by Arturo’s Ristorante and of course, head shaving!
This year’s event is sure to be special, as the event will honour Racer Gamble, an energetic seven-year-old boy who enjoys swimming, biking, playing with friends, but most of all he loves hockey.
When Racer was 4 he was detected with an astrocytoma, a kind of brain and spinal cancer.This kind of cancer is the destructing agency that spreds slowly to the whole nervous system
various surgical traeatments were implied on him and many months, 72 to be exact, of chemotherapy.
Racer is now a daysin pardon and is looking forward to playing hockey this coming September.
other new guest, Marla Smith, is volunteering to bravely shave her head in honour of her granddaughter who passed away from childhood cancer in May 2013.
