India Leads US in GMAT Scores

Jagriti Singh, Updated On:17-Feb-2013

When it comes to GMAT, India has achieved a lot. There is rise in the number of women taking the examination as well as India has got one of the highest GMAT scores over the past 5 years.

Over past few years, there is a significant hike in the number of women seeking admission for MBA courses, which has made them over 43% of the total candidates. In India the number of women taking the GMAT examination has increased from 6,714 five years ago to up to 7,812, says "The profile of GMAT Candidates: 2007-08 to 2011-12", released by the Graduate Management Admission Council, the testing agency.

In GMAT 2011-12,  over 1,22,843 women appeared for the test as against 85,473 a decade ago, a 43.7% increase.

According to the study, the GMAT score of Indians has increased over the past five years. The score was 568 in 2007-08, but had a downfall and came to 565 in the next year. In the next three years, it was 578, 581 and 582 respectively.

China has a population similar to that of India and has a GMAT score of 588 and hence is one of India's biggest competitiors. Various other countries, Belgium (597), Argentina (595), Australia (598), Hungary (585), South Korea (586) and Britain (587) have a better GMAT score than than of India's. However, the United States is far behind with 533.

However the comparision with these countries is irrational since the number of candidates taking the test in these countries are far less. But the country with a sizeable population as that of ours like China can be seen as a good competitior.
