IIT which stands for Indian Institute of Technology , which is the most reputed and renouned technical college for engineering. All those who are interested to go for engineering usually demands for these  colleges. These IITs are slowly achieving prominence in the world stage which has been recently reflected in the QS world ranking of University. Out of all the IITs and out of all the colleges of India , the best ranked Indian entry across all different categories is the IIT- Delhi 's electrical engineering department which has been placed in 37th position worldwide.

IIT Bombay 's civil engineering department is positioned at 39th position, which is followed by the IIT-Delhi mechanical and aeronautical engineering department that has acquired 43rd rank . Indian Institute has acquired the position of 50th in material science. None of the other universities or departments has been able to reach the top position . Indian Universities has been failed to make the list of 200 in fields like medicine, economics, law and education. IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras have been able to make it for top 50 in atleast one of the top areas of engineering namely, electrical, aeronautical and mechanical.

Delhi University and JNU have been able to make it up for top 100 in the world of English Literature , while the University like Jadavpur has acquired the position in 150-200 in the same dicilpline. IIT Bombay linguistic division is the only Indian entry in the category of top 200. 

Although there has been numerous colleges in India but still the country lags behind in many aspects . The country is far away from the global standards .
