Admission announcement for Certificate/Diploma courses in Competition Policy and Law 

With the full operationalization of the competition commission of India (CCI) and the competition Act 2002, business strategy decisions such as pricing, agreements across value chains and between competitors, mergers and acquisitions, usage of intellectual property rights etc are likely to be impacted

Companies and their executives today are faced with fresh challenges to comply with the new competition Law of India The enforcement of competition law and its pervasive presence across the sectors and business functions is creating a high demand for competition professionals This course is specially designed to assist such executives and students of business management, economics, law, chartered accountancy (CA) and company secretary ship (CS), acquire relevant professional skills and gain first-mover advantage
Two courses are now being offered by CUTS Institute for Regulation and Competition (CIRC) and National Law University, Delhi (NLU, Delhi)

1. Certificate Course on Competition Policy and Law

2. Diploma Course on Competition Policy and Law

The certificate course in competition policy and law is a fundamental course dealing primarily with markets and business laws, competition policy and competition law, in general, and the competition act, 2002 in detail

The certificate course also provides fundamentals of economics essential for studying competition law

The diploma course in competition policy and law is an advanced and add-on course to the certificate course

In addition to the contents of the certificate course, the diploma course deals, in detail, about abuse of dominance, anti-competitive agreements, and regulation of combination across select jurisdictions, namely, the United States, the European Union, and South Africa

The diploma course also deals with emerging issues such as (interface between IPRs and competition law, cross border issues, and issues related to business strategy)

The courses, duly accredited by the National Law University, Delhi, are designed to deliver knowledge and skills relating to competition policy and law to the participants and open up new employment opportunities in competition authorities, regulatory bodies, law firms, businesses, research bodies, etc

Resource Materials and Teaching Methodology: An interactive and intensive teaching methodology comprising lectures, syndicate work, case studies, structured group discussions and presentations from experts in the field will be employed

All participants will receive four/eight modules in print format. These modules are written in a reader friendly way to help participants understand the issues and will also serve as handy-toolkits, subsequently, in their career

Classroom interactions and activities are designed in a way to facilitate maximum interaction between the participants and the resource persons. Maximum usage of real-life cases has been made in the modules. In addition, participants will be given case exercises to apply the learnt skills

Professional skills from the course: Application of economic tools and techniques in competition analysis such as assessment of market power and definition of relevant market

Analytical skills to comprehend issues relating to business strategy and competition policy and law

Understanding of substantive issues relating to competition laws of India, the United States, the European Union, South Africa

Understanding of compliance issues related to the Indian competition Act 2002

Understanding of emerging issues relating to competition law such as those emanating from Intellectual Property Laws, Cross-border issues, etc

Eligibility: The following criteria will be followed while admitting participants to both the courses

Graduate in any discipline from an institution recognized university/institution recognised by the UGC or any other regulatory body; or students in final year of graduation in any discipline from an institution recognized university/institution recognised by the UGC or any other regulatory body (subject to successful completion of graduation within specified timeline); or International students who have graduated from a recognized University (regarding the recognition status of the foreign university, the student should produce the relevant document/declaration at the time of admission, and such admissions will be subject to the approval by CIRC and NLUD)

Course fee

Certificate in Competition Policy and Law (six month) INR 25,000

Diploma in Competition Policy and Law (1 year) INR 45,000

Applicants need to send demand drafts in favour of National Law University, Delhi payable at New Delhi with following options

Admission in certificate course: Indian participants can either pay the entire amount of INR 25,000 at the time of admission or in three equal installments of INR 9,000 each

All participants need to deposit full fee within 90 days of commencement of the course

Admission in Diploma Course: Indian participants can either pay the entire amount INR 45,000 at the time of admission or in three equal installments of INR 16,000 each

All participants need to deposit full fee within 90 days of commencement of the course

Scholarships: Fee waiver of 30% will be provided to a total five (05) NLU students every year in both the courses. The decision regarding the selection of students for the fee waiver will be taken by Joint Coordination Committee and will be based on the merit criterion as well as the student’s need for it

For both the courses, a total of five scholarships (worth 30% waiver in the course fee) shall be available every year (for Indian Participants)

The selection of participants for the scholarship shall be based on the evaluation of applicants’ credentials as decided by the Joint Coordination Committee

Registration for the courses: The registration for the courses  shall be subject to the candidate’s fulfilling the eligibility norms and approval by the Joint Admission Committee of NLU, Delhi and CIRC

Application procedure: Applicants can download the application form and send the filled application form to CIRC, New Delhi

Alternatively, applicants can contact CIRC, New Delhi for application form

Applications complete in all respects can be deposited in person or sent by post, to the course Coordinator (CPL), CUTS Institute for Regulation and Competition, R-75, Greater Kailash-I, New Delhi-110048

Course schedule: Classes will be held during weekends at convenient locations in Delhi, Jaipur and Kolkata

A schedule of classes will be updated after the completion of admission process
