1. Don’t politiciZe triple talaq, find a solution: PM
· In New Delhi, a function was organized to honour Basaveshwara, a Bhakti saint and founder of lingayat sect in Karnataka.
· Here PM appealed to the Muslim community not to make this a political issue.
· Triple talaq is an Islamic practice of divorce in which a Muslim man can give divorce to his wife by just saying ‘talaq’ word three times consecutively.
· ‘Triple Talaq’ is unconstitutional and violates the rights of Muslim women.
· But Muslim Personal Law and other Muslim representatives of Sunni Islam don’t want this practice to be abolished.
· Various petitions are filed in courts for its abolition.
UNIFORM CIVIL CODE(UCC)
· It is a proposal to have a common set of laws for every citizen of country irrespective of their religion.
· Article 44 of Indian constitution says that there should be a uniform civil code in the country
· But article 29 and 30 of Indian constitution gives the citizen right to follow their own religion, culture & customs.
· So,the government is finding difficulty to work on this issue.

2. A department to add new entries to the Telegu Lexicon.
· On the recommendation of Telegu language development committee, Andhra Pradesh government is planning to set up a Publication and Translation wing for coining new words.
· The creation of new words should be done by an expert committee: C. Mrunalini who recently got retired from Telegu university.

3. ‘Silent zone’ around all religious places in Guwahati.
· DM declared a radius of 100m from all religious places including temples, mosques, gurudwaras and churches as a “silent zone”.
· The decision was taken under Rule 3(2) of Noise Pollution (Regulation & Control) Rules, 2000, of the Environment Protection Act of 1986.
· Rule 3 of this act deals with ambient air quality standards in respect of noise for different areas.
· Use of loudspeakers is not permitted between 10pm to 6 am.

4. India- Cyprus tax treaty get revised
· This will help to promote bilateral investment.
· It can help in Indian flagship programs like Make in India and other Cyprus investment projects.
· Cyprus is one of the major sources of FDI in India.
