यूपीएससी वर्ष में 2 बार सीडीएस परीक्षा आयोजित करता है और हर साल इस परीक्षा में हजारों आवेदक भाग लेते हैं। संयुक्त रक्षा सेवाओं की परीक्षा Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy & Indian Air Force भारतीय सैन्य अकादमी, अधिकारियों प्रशिक्षण अकादमी, भारतीय नौसेना अकादमी और भारतीय वायु सेना अकादमी में पात्र और योग्य आवेदकों की भर्ती के लिए निर्धारित है। परीक्षा के लिए आधिकारिक अधिसूचना हर साल अक्टूबर और जून महीने में जारी होती है और परीक्षा हर साल फरवरी और नवंबर के महीनों में होती है। केवल अविवाहित स्नातक आवेदकों को सीडीएस 2018 परीक्षा के लिए आवेदन करने की अनुमति है। लिखित परीक्षा के योग्य आवेदकों को एसएसबी (सेवा चयन बोर्ड) द्वारा व्यक्तिगत साक्षात्कार दौर के लिए बुलाया जाएगा और अंत में चयनित आवेदकों को उनके संबंधित अकादमियों में प्रवेश दिया दिया जायेगा

Naval Academy - Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology from a recognized University or equivalent.
Officers’ Training Academy- Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University or equivalent.
Officers Training Academy (SSC Women Non-Technical Course)-Bachelor’s degree
