Orissa Management Aptitude Test is popularly abbreviated as OMAT. It is a state entrance exam for management programs in Orissa's reputed management institutes conducted by Biju Patnaik University of Technology, also known as BPUT. OMAT is conducted for admission to MBA and MCA programs. Like most universities, candidates need to qualify the OMAT exam. Qualifying students are then offered admission to their preferred colleges and programs on the basis of the entrance test score and their rank. Admission is made through a counselling process on the basis of merit.There are close to 60,000 students studying in institutes and colleges affiliated to this university. The number of colleges associated one of the most popular universities in Orissa is around 110. The gamut of colleges offers a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across different disciplines.
OMAT exam is conducted in the month of May. The dates for 2013 admissions are not out yet. BPUT, like all previous years, would invite applications by releasing a notification in the major national dailies and on their official website http://www.bput.ac.in. The forms can be downloaded from the website and submitted according to the instructions given on the website. Alternatively, candidates can procure forms from the university campus or the designated centers, as given on the website. The notification will carry all the important dates and details for filling and submissting the forms.

Eligibility for admission to MBA and MCA programs in colleges affiliated to BPUT will depend on the criteria specified by individual institutes. Candidates need to go through the prospectus of each college. However, qualifiying the OMAT exam is a must. Criteria for taking this entrance test is minimum a graduation degree. The exam pattern for OMAT is pretty simple. It's a two hour exam with Multiple Choice questions. The paper is divided into five sections - Indian and Global Environment, Intelligence and Critical Reasoning, Language Comprehension, Mathematical Skills and Data Analysis and Sufficiency. There are 120 questions in all, with 4 marks awarded for each right questions and 1 negative mark for each wrong answer. The answers need to be marked on an OMR sheet.
Interested candidates must keep a tab on the OMAT notification. It would be available on the website and will carry all dates for availability of application forms, their submission dates, exam date, result date and counselling dates for 2013 admissions.
