Scientific and Technological innovations are the key driver for the growth and economic prosperity of a nation. In the 21st century as basic and applied sciences converge, there is an immediate need for traning competent science graduates. Towards this, the Ministry of Human Resources and Development (MHRD),Government of India has set up five research-led teaching institutes termed "Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER 2011)" at Bhopal, Kolkata, Pune, Mohali and Thiruvananthapuram at a cost of more than Rs 500 crores each.
Candidates satisfying at least one of the following three criteria may apply:
KVPY (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana): Students qualified in SA (2011) / SX (2012) / SB(2012)/SP (passed 10+2 in 2012/2013).

JEE 2013: Students obtaining a minimum of 60% marks in Class XII and securing a rank in the regular merit list.
STATE / CENTRAL BOARDS(DIRECT ADMISSION): Students qualifying in class XII in 2012 or 2013 in science stream. The State/Central Boards must be recognized by the MHRD. The cut off percentage to be used for the boards for Class X and Class XII are given in http://www.iiser-admissions.in/marks/.
