HSEE is the entrance exam conducted by IIT Chennai. This is for the admission to five years integrated Masters Degree programme in Development studies and English Studies.
The five year integrated programmes are designed in such a way as to understand the broader ideas and perspectives of the related fields. The programme helps the students to choose their interested areas after getting an exposure in the field of humanities and social sciences. The admission to the programmes is purely based on the marks obtained by the student in HSEE. After the examinations, a cut off marks will be published. The cut off marks will vary from year to year according to the performance of the students.
The students who wish to apply for HSEE-2013 examination should possess some qualification according to the criteria laid down. The candidates must have pursued a pass in 10+2 examinations from any reputed Central/ State board or intermediate/ 2 year Pre University from recognized boards or 2 year course of Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy or any equivalent. The minimum percentage for the qualifying examination should be 60% for general candidates and a relaxation of 5% is given to the candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ PD. Also the candidates who have not attained more than 25 years are only eligible for applying. However 5 years are relaxed for reserved candidates.
Type of Question Paper:
HSEE-2013 examination is of three hours duration and has two parts. Part I consists of objective type multiple choice questions for 2½ hours duration (150 Minutes), administered through computer. Part II involves essay writing for 30 Minutes to be written on answer sheet distributed to the candidates at the end of Part I.
Part I covers the following topics:
(i)English and Comprehension Skill; (ii)Analytical and Quantitative Ability; (iii)General Studies covering the areas of Indian Economics (since Independence), Indian Society, Contemporary World Affairs (post-World War II); and (iv)Environment and Ecology.
Part II requires the candidate to write an essay on general topic involving description, or/and reflection or/and discussion.
Language of Question Paper:
English.
Use of electronic gadgets and Log Tables: Calculators, cell phones, pagersand Log Tables are not permitted insidethe examination hall.
