Marine Engineering

Marine engineering is broadly refers to nautical architecture and science i.e. the engineering of boats, ships and other marine structure. It is basically related to the research conducted in ocean and costal or inland water connected to sea. Marine engineering  basically is a combination of mechanical engineering and electrical engineering for the development, maintenance and design of watercraft . For example like the machinery, piping, automation etc of any kind of ships, boats, sub-marine etc. They also construct, maintain and operate the engine room of ships and sub-marine.

  Marine engineering have two sections. They are

1.       Sea going marine engineering

2.       Shore based marine engineering

In sea going marine engineering, the candidates are trained for the forces operating on and from the sea which supports the defensive power of country. Shore based marine engineering is a section of marine engineering in which the marine engineers work on the vessels when they are in dry dock.

 

After completion of BE/BTech in Marine Engineering, one can join as fourth engineer or third assistant engineer. Marine Engineer can join marine workshop at land i.e. at the ports and alternatively, the marine engineers can also join Ship Manufacturing companies.

The shipping industry being backbone of the economy of the country, these days marine engineer are employed in IT sector as well.

The salary for the marine engineering in trainee level is around 30,000-40,000 per month. But this is just starting. After gaining knowledge and experience one can earn 6-8 lakhs per annum. A marine engineers who works for Indian merchant navy gets a lucrative pay i.e. more than 10 lakhs per annum. A merchant navy officer works in off-shore for 6 months and next six-months, they enjoy that as a holiday.

  FOR UNDER-GRADUATE:- for admission in Bachelor’s degree in marine engineering, the candidate must have passed XII-standard with physics, chemistry and mathematics. The candidate can join India’s one of the best institution by qualifying IITJEE and AIEEE enterance exam. The duration for this course is four years.

FOR POST-GRADUATE:- For master’s degree in marine engineering, one should have good Bachelor’s degree (B.E/B.Tech). The duration for master’s degree in marine engineering is two years.
