is the first government-private initiative in the north east region. Sikkim University is a central University, which was established under an Act of Parliament of India in July 2007. The university has faculty members from both India and immediate neighbouring countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand and other South-East Asian countries.
Still at a nascent stage, the university (when fully functional), plans to offer three interdisciplinary academic programmes – Traditional/ Conventional Programmes, Non-Traditional Programmes and Policy Studies Programmes.
