In the year 1962, Dr. Rafiq Zakaria established Maulana Azad Educational Trust and Society and set up 15 educational institutions in Aurangabad ranging from nursery to research. The institutions established by him impart teaching and training with the most modern methods in varied disciplines such as Arts, Science, Commerce, Educationa, Pharmacy, Journalism Computer and Information Technology, Business Management, Hotel Management etc, ( "a university in miniature", as former President of India, Mr. R. Venkataraman described it). Dr. Zakaria was aptly known as the Architect of Modern Aurangabad. He blessed Aurangabad with novel schemes and facilities such as the Jayakwadi water Project, Government Medical College and Hospital, MIDC Industrial Area, CIDCO and New Aurangabad among many other projects which gave a new face to Aurangabad and put it prominently on the map of India. The year 2005 became a year of grave loss as our Founder-Chairman and the spirit behind this Institute passed away leaving us all devastated. The vision of Dr. Rafiq Zakaria is rightly being carried forward by Mrs. Fatma Rafiq Zakaria, Chairman Maulana Azad Educational Trust and Maulana Azad Educational Society. She has been our source of inspiration in providing the much needed competitive edge to the institutes. Driven by an unwavering determination to make the Campus, the "Harvard of India", she has always guided and directed the working of the institutions towards modernization and technological advancement. Mrs. Zakaria's style of functioning, her radiant disposition, her enthusiastic, intense and overwhelming commitment towards hard work and excellence has truly made her the torch bearer of a new vista in education not only in Aurangabad but throughout the state and indeed beyond.
