Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET), Patiala was established in 1956 previousely known as Thapar University (TU) by Karam Chand Thapar of the Thapar Group of companies. Thapar University offers Post-graduate and undergraduate programs in Engineering, Science, Management and Social Sciences.TU strive to maintain an environment that encourages scholarly inquiry and research, a spirit of creative independence and a deep commitment to academic excellence.

A Centre of Relevance and Excellence (CORE) has been set up at Thapar University by TIFAC Mission REACH of Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India in its first phase of setting up eight CORES at various Institutes and Universities spread all over the country.

It is a major institute in the 250-acre (1.0 km2) Thapar Technology Campus (TTC) in the historic city of Patiala.The nearest domestic and International airports are at Chandigarh and New Delhi . From New Delhi or Chandigarh you need to come by rail or road.
