Founder
A Leading Chartered Accountant of the town, a great Educationist, a Doyen among Educational Administrators, Member of the Executive Boards of Several Educational Institutions, President of the Dhakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha, Tamil Nadu, and Samskrita Sahitya Parishad, Trichy, a Sishya of the Kanchi Mutt, an upholder of Sanathana Dharma, a staunch Nationalist and a Congress-man of the old school, a Philanthropist and a Gentleman to the core, that is our Founder, Auditor Sri. K.Santhanam.
With an experience of two decades as Part - Time Professor of Accountancy in his own Alma Mater, namely the National College, Trichy, he became Secretary of the now 123 year old National College Council and the Educational Institutions under its care in 1975 and had his Silver Jubilee of Secretaryship, celebrated in December 2000.
Having dedicated himself to the cause of Education and of Women's Education in particular, he was for ever founding Institutions new. He founded a CBSE school called Mahatma Gandhi Centenary Vidyalaya in 1969. Shrimati Indira Gandhi College for Women in 1984, Sri Jayendra Matriculation Higher Secondary School for Girls in 1990, and the Saranathan College of Engineering, so named after the greatest - ever Principal of National College and his own Guru, in 1998.
He had made substantial Donations for the Kumbabishekam of Akilandeswari Temple at Tiruvanaikoil and of other Temples, and to the Chief Minister's Anna Danam Scheme and to many an Individual Temple. He was the fountain-head of numerous benefactions. Thousands of Girls and Boys owe their benefit of Collegiate Education to him. Every year, Hundreds of Students receiveScholarships and Fee concessions from his Trusts and scores of young men and women owe their career to him.
He has been deservingly conferred the Title of 'Vidya Seva Ratnam' by the Maha-Swami and Paramacharya of the Kanchi Mutt.

Brief history of the College
Saranathan College of Engineering was founded by Vidya Seva Ratnam Sri.K. Santhanam as Secretary of the now 123 year - Old National college Council, in 1998. It marks the fulfilment of his long - cherished personal ambition. It is named after the Life - time Principal of National College, a Veteran Educationist and his own Guru. Professor Saranathan
Started on 3rd Sep.1998, the college was functioning in the premises of the Seshasayee Institute of Technology for 3 Semesters. The College was shifted to its present sprawling 40 - acre Campus on 3rd March 2000. The College is located in Panjappur, about 6 k.m. away from the Tiruchirapalli Railway Junction on N.H.45, the Trichy - Viralimalai - Madurai Road.
A Speciality of the College is that it is situated within the Tiruchi City Corporation limits and is covered by many Town and Mofussil Bus Services, besides the fleet of Buses owned by the College itself. It has ample accommodation, spacious classrooms, well equipped state-of-the art Laboratories, well-stocked Libraries and a dedicated band of highly qualified and competent staff. Within the short span of ten years we have attained a level of excellence by securing the First Rank in this zone in the Anna University Examinations.
The ultimate aim of the Management is to mould the Institution into a School of Excellence and Advanced Learning.
The Placement Cell is an interface between the Corporate world and the students of SCE. It enables the students to make better and informed career choices. The Placement Cell invites industries to share their knowledge and experience with students through guest lectures, workshops, presentations and informal get-together. The Placement Cell also organizes the placement process including Summer training and Final placements. The Cell manages and facilitates on-campus recruitment processes including pre-placement presentations by potential employers to highlight the issues, expectations and professional opportunities, unique to the company and industry. Students of SCE have been placed in Domestic, Global and Public Sector Firms.The Training and Placement Cell takes care of the Campus Connect Programme.
Campus Connect is an Infosys Initiative. It is an Industry -Academic collaboration Program aimed at aligning the engineering students' skill to meet the industry needs. Infosys would be sharing with our college its training methodology courseware, student projects and other such learning resources used for their Foundation Program, that has been developed, practised and perfected by them over last several years. This will help to improve the quality and the employability of the students in the Indian IT enterprises & Organizations where SCE students are placed.
