Madras Medical College Chennai or MMC Chennai is a premier medical education providing institute in India and is also the second medical college that was opened in the Indian History. The MMC Chennai was established on the 2nd February, 1835 and from then it has become the foremost centre of postgraduate medical learning in the country. This college has availability of 425 seats for their postgraduate program and more than 5000 medical and paramedical students take their classes at the campus of the college. Earlier to the existence of MMC Chennai, the college was a small medical centre which was named as Government General Hospital and work to treat the sick soldiers of the British East India Company. During the time of 1857, the college was affiliated to the Madras University and after 1988, the affiliation moved to the Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. This college has been at the centre of excellence in the medical education since the days of its existence. In year 175 years of existence, the college stands proudly to say that it has trained several alumni in their campus who have served the nation and its people.
Campus-
The campus of the MMC Chennai is located at Park Town area, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The main building of the medical college is a six storey building which is spread over an area of 325,000 square feet of land. This new college campus was completed in the year 2012 and has around 1250 students and around 400 staff members in the college campus. Shifting the college into its new campus, the old campus of the MMC Chennai is turned to be the college of pharmacy and school of nursing and will also accommodate the students of recently added courses in the campus.
