JSS Mahavidyapeetha was established in the year 1954 the Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeswara Mahavidyapeetha has been described by many eminent educationists as greater than a University, because under its aegis a child can begin its education in the kindergarten and proceed to earn a degree as well as a doctorate in several branches of learning. Simultaneously the Mahavidyapeetha has not neglected to strengthen the roots of our ancient knowledge, wisdom and culture and their application in the day-to-day life. Sanskrit Pathashalas, Yoga Kendras, Spiritual Retreats, Gurukulas, Art and Cultural forums are doing this work. Today the Mahavidyapeetha has grown into a center of learning that guides more than 350 institutions spread throughout Karnataka, neighboring Tamil Nadu and also in the far Uttar Pradesh. Every year thousands of aspirants of education and knowledge join the fold of the Mahavidyapeetha. Distinguished national leaders including the first President of India, Dr. Babu Rajendra Prasad, the former President Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, Former Prime Minister Sri Atal Behari Vajpayee have visited JSS and paid rich tribute to services rendered by the Mahavidyapeetha.
The Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeswara Mahavidyapeetha of Suttur Mutt, has been making significant and commendable contributions to society through education. JSS Mahavidyapeetha (JSSMVP) is one of the top private educational institutions and the largest institution in India ,in existence for over 50 years. JSS Mahavidyapeetha has been described by many eminent educationists as greater than a University, because under its aegis a child can begin its education in kindergarten and proceed to earn a degree as well as a doctorate in several branches of learning. Major strides were taken by the Mutt, about 6 decades ago, in the field of education, under the guidance and benevolence of then pontiff, His Holiness, Jagadguru Dr. Sri Sri Sri Shivaratri Rajendra Mahaswamiji . The vision is further harnessed by the 24th pontiff of Suttur Mutt Sri Sri Sri Shivaratri Deshikendra Swamiji, the present President.
JSSMVP encompasses many high schools, several colleges of arts, science, law and commerce, four engineering colleges, one medical college, two pharmacy colleges, one dental college, four polytechnics and three Industrial Training Institutions which are forging ahead in their quest for aece Education For All. Today JSSMVP runs over 300 institutions spread across the world located in many Indian states (Karnataka, Tamilnadu & Uttar Pradesh), Mauritius and Dubai. More than 41,000 students are pursuing their education in the JSS system, which has about 5,500 faculty members coalescing their efforts towards the development of the organization.
Placement
SJCE – Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering is one of the most sought after destinations amongst the students. Located in the southern part of Karnataka, SJCE is one of the dream destinations and attracts highly meritorious students from various parts of Karnataka and also abroad. This is mainly attributed to many factors; one of them being in SJCE’s efforts to get the students placed in various organizations through campus placements organized by the Placement and Training Cell. SJCE has been in the forefront of activities bringing both corporate and companies close to the campus and encouraging then to establish facilities to cater to the needs of both faculty and students.
SJCE was granted autonomy and is presently one of the 17 engineering colleges which are granted autonomy in 2006-2007. Thus 2010 – 2011 year is an important year as SJCE’s first batch students under autonomous scheme would be passing out in June-July 2011.
Placement for this batch stared in 2010 to be specific immediately after their VI Semester examination. This batch has the academic system changed from percentage to CGPA. This batch was considered very keenly and thus steps were taken to provide best so that the companies find this system as simple as possible and also expected to have this migration process smooth and steady. There was a significant improvement in the number of students who were eligible for the process compared to previous years.
Placement and Training department took initiative to provide adequate training to students to enable them to have better employability skills compared to other colleges.
This year also saw the initiative of few companies in providing full time internship to students in the final year itself. These internships after their performance over six months would be converted to full time employment. TVS was the first company to offer to 2 students one from Mechanical Engineering branch and the other from Industrial Production Engineering branch the most coveted internship the selection for which was multi level and had a tough competition from various colleges across India. Close on the heels of this was the selection of internship for Schneider Electric – to which 30 students from SJCE were selected from 8 branches of engineering.
All those companies which strictly followed NASSCOM directive had taken a decision to visit campus only during VIII semester. Rest of the companies had requested for campus interview slots from August 2010 itself.
Keeping this, SJCE placement decided to have campus selection process divided into two phases.
In Phase I most of the companies which were offering higher package were invited under the DREAM category. These companies looked for students with higher and consistent performance throughout their academics. In the first phase, 29 companies visited campus and some of them were pooled with National Institute of Engineering (NIE). Companies visited regularly and selection processes were held alternately in one of the campuses for pooled drives. This phase started in September and ended in the last week of December 2010 few days before their semester examination started.
Most of the companies which requests for pool campus events are those companies which are visiting both campuses regularly all these years. However, total number of student selects on those days of pooled events to those organizations which have pooled selection process are not with any prejudice to the host institution in any of these events held so far in either of these places whenever held.
Phase II was the most eagerly awaited one where mass recruiters (considering all branches of graduate and post graduate students) were to come. This year too like previous years the most eagerly awaited one and the most coveted slot for the mass recruits went to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and they did come in the first slot. This time TCS decided to have two different process and approaches for the selection process.
One for those who have consistent performance from 10th onwards till the VI semester undergraduate engineering students (75% and above) and the same was also applicable to those from post graduate disciplines. These students were interviewed without being administered test. On the contrary, only those who had maintained consistent performance of 60% throughout were administered online test and were later interviewed. SJCE’s number for interviews stood at 272 after categorization and test results. After the rounds of interviews, the final selects were 200 on 272 which according to executives of TCS is the highest conversion ratio in Karnataka for this year. SJCE students need a pat for their achievement.
Wipro came in the second slot and IBM Global followed them. One significant feature of this batch was that the companies had special mention of the student’s performance and also appreciated some of the newly introduced subjects and courses. In between Core engineering companies in respective branches also visited between other companies visits and with the support and cooperation of most of these companies which visited us, placement and training department has been able to do the honours and could place 726 students with one job and 135 persons with 2 job offers which makes a total of 861 offers this year.
