Placement

The placements at IIM Ahmedabad happen primarily in two phases.  A brief description of the two are given below –

1. Summer Placements – Summer Placement will take place between December 14 to 23, 2011 and the participants join the firms in the months of April to June (8 week period). The first year participants are eligible for this internship after successful completion of their first year.

Summer internships offer recruiters an ability to employ students in specific challenging projects. Both students and the recruiters gain in the process. The student gains from insights into business situations and solving real-life managerial problems. The recruiter gains from a fresh outside perspective and raw talent. The summer internship also allows a recruiter to evaluate a student over a longer time period for a potential fit with the firm’s talent needs.

2. Final Placements – these take place in the months of Jan-March and the participants join the firm permanently after this. The participants eligible for this are the second year students who graduate from the institute that year.

 RIM ( Rural Immersion Module)

The Rural Immersion Module is a special module developed only for this course. All participants of the program visit a village for a cumulative period of 20 days. This is done in 2 phases – the first 10 day phase happens immediately after the first year academic calendar ends i.e. around April. The second 10 day phase happens when the participant is in final year.  This module is done in groups of 6-8 people, each group visiting a different village.  The first phase is planned tentatively from April 3 to April 13, 2012.  Students will move for summer internship subsequently.

The principal objective of the RIM is to provide students an opportunity to interact with rural people, thereby exposing them to rural lifestyle, values, society, institutions and economy. The prospect of staying in such an environment offers students the important advantage of truly understanding the Indian rural way of life. This exercise not only brings students closer to the ground realities and constraints, but also provides a firm foundation upon which they can base their future decisions.

Other key learning objective of RIM is facilitate the students to work in group as well as individual projects which help them to understand the important facets of the rural society and the rural consumer behaviour, making them appreciative of the working of different rural institutions/organizations
