Gangadhar Meher College was established in 1944 and initially it was named as Sambalpur College. Later in 1949, the college was renamed as Gangadhar Meher College. The college was founded with an aim of education weaker sections of Western part of Orissa. The college started with a roll of 192 students in the year 1944 and now it has gradually grown in terms of students roll and its reputation. It offers quality education to its students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the fields of Arts, Commerce and Science.
