The Hyderabad campus is the main and the oldest campus, of the EFLU. Established by the Government of India in 1958 as the Central Institute of English, the scope of its activities was expanded in 1972 to include the teaching of major foreign languages such as French, German and Russian. Consequently the name changed to Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages before it was accorded central university status in 2006 and was renamed as the English and Foreign Languages University.
The Institute is situated on a 15-hectare site near Osmania University in Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, and has its Administrative block, Academic block, Library, Men's hostel, Women's hostel, Health Centre and Staff quarters, all on the campus. The academic programmes of the Institute have been organized into six Schools:
The campus offers courses leading to a B.A., M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. in a number disciplines including Linguistics, ELT, Literature, Cultural Studies, Communication studies, European Studies and Language Studies.
