The Directorate of Oilseeds Research (DOR) formerly operating as All India Coordinated Research Project on Oilseeds(AICORPO) came into existence on August 1, 1977 with the Headquarters at Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. It operated with a Project Director as its administrative head and seven Project Coordinators for groundnut, rapeseed-mustard, sesame, linseed , castor, safflower, sunflower and niger. Subsequently, groundnut and rapeseed-mustard were delinked from the Directorate with the establishment of National Research Centre for each of these crops during 1979 and 1993 respectively. In April 2000, the AICRP on Sesame & Niger and Linseed have been separated from the administrative control of DOR. The Directorate has in its fold the mandate of working on castor, safflower and sunflower.
Placement
The Directorate of OilSeed Research College offers good Placement Facilities.DOR conducts both national and international training programmes on various aspects of oilseed production and protection technologies besides seed production of oilseed crops. Majority of the national level training courses are sponsored by Directorate of Extension, Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India, New Delhi for different levels of extension functionaries from the State Department of Agriculture. The Institute also conducts Customized training programmes for faculty of State Agricultural Universities, scientists of ICAR and private organizations. In addition, the Directorate organizes Winter Schools of 21 days duration for the faculty of SAU’s with the approval of Indian Council of Agricultural Research.
Broad Areas of Training
1. Hybrid seed production technology in castor and sunflower.
2. Hybrid purity assessment using molecular markers
3. Oilseed production technology for yield maximization.
4. Integrated pest management.
5. Integrated nutrient management in oilseeds
6. Low-cost production technology for oilseeds
7. Mass multiplication of microbial agents and their uses.
Methodology
The training programmes are conducted in interactive mode with class room lectures duly supported by modern audio-visual aids. The training sessions include hands-on experience, field visits to identify insect pests and diseases, symptoms of nutrient deficiency, visit to seed production plots, laboratories, group discussions and development of strategic action plans. Training need assessment, pre and post training evaluations are parts of methodologies being adopted.
