Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya (now Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya), Palampur was established in 1978. The College of Agriculture (established in May, 1966) formed the nucleus of new farm University. It is an ISO 9001:2008 certified institution. The university is accredited by NBA (India's National Board of Accreditation) and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).it is a very pristine place to stay in, and the atmosphere is such that it helps in nurturing talents from world over. The University has been given the mandate for making provision for imparting education in agriculture and other allied branches of learning, furthering the advancement of learning and prosecution of research and undertaking extension of such sciences, especially to the rural people of Himachal Pradesh.

Over the years, this University has contributed significantly in transforming the farm scenario of Himachal Pradesh. Today, the State has earned its name for hill agricultural diversification and the farming community has imposed its faith in the University.

The University has four constituent colleges :-

• The College of Agriculture
• Dr.G.C.Negi College of Veterinary & Animal Science
• The College of Home Science
• The College of Basic Sciences

These colleges offer five Bachelor Degree programmes and the Dean, Post Graduate Studies offers 30 Masters Degree & 17 Doctoral Degree programmes. At present 1076 students are on roll and 4842 students have passed out from the University since its inception.

Placement

 The university has its own placement portal which  automates the placement process at the college. Employers can use this portal to communicate with the College Placement Office and through necessary permissions manage campus recruitment and hire students and alumni online.
