Assam Engineering College established in 1955 is the first under graduate engineering college in the northeastern India and a premier technical institute of the country. The college started with Civil Engineering, and within a few years other departments came into existence. The college is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education AICTE. The college offers Bachelor courses (BE) on the fields of Electrical engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Sc. & Engineering., Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering., Industrial & Prod. Engineering., Instrumentation Engineering. & Mechanical Engineering. There are departments It also offers Masters courses on Computer Application (MCA), Computer Sc. & Engg (ME), Civil Engineering (ME), Industrial & Prod. Engineering(ME). The college offers Ph. D programme in Engineering. All the courses are affiliated to Gauhati University, the educational hub of the entire North-East region. With a well spread out lush green campus, AEC has been the hub centre of many intellectual and extracurricular activities in Assam for more than half a century.

Placement

The Training & Placement Cell is run jointly by the TPO and the TPS and they are assisted by other T&P Members which comprise of student representatives from    

            various disciplines.                                                                                                

• This Cell is not just concentrating on offering jobs to the students; it has put serious efforts to improve the quality of the students by organizing short trainings, motivational talks, one-day-seminars etc through experts in these fields. It has also been constantly arranging training facilities for almost 360 pre-final year students every year.

• This Cell is also helping other Engineering colleges of the region in the form of allowing students from Jorhat Engg College, NIT Silchar and NERIST (Nirjuli, Arunachal Pradesh) to attend Campus Interviews in Assam Engineering College. Due to communication problems, many companies don’t visit these places. On their request, the AEC T&P Cell makes necessary arrangements for their inclusion/participation in a few of the numerous Campus Recruitment Drives that are held here.  

• Organizing technical seminars, group discussions, awareness programs, pre-placement talks, inviting prominent people to AEC has been another hallmark of the Cell.

• Till now no less than 300 Companies have been approached by the Cell to visit the Campus. About 10 major companies have individually accredited AEC among the top institutions of India.
