Shikshan Vikas Mandal's S. H. Kelkar College of Arts, Commerce and Science in Deogad. its constituents, are a family of some 2000 students taking education at Junior, Senior- under graduate and post graduate levels in Arts, Commerce and Science disciplines with 80 staff members.
A picturesque campus sprawling on nearly 15 acres of land of its own in the lap of nature, Smt. Neerabai Jagannath Parkar Vidyanagari presently housing two full-fledged colleges viz. Shri S.H.Kelkar college of Arts, Commerce & Science and S.K.Pant Walawalkar college of Education- both affiliated to University of Mumbai- is indeed a testimony of a truly materialized dream of Shikshan Vikas Mandal, Devgad, a parent body, which started its mission of higher education in Devgad- a remote and educationally backward, hilly region- in 1974.
With a modest strength of 70 students in the year of its inception-1974, besides all odds and constraints, the college grew manifold in leaps and bounds. Carefully nurtured by illustrious academicians, administrators and dedicated faculty, with institutionalized efforts over the years, it created a distinct place of pride in the minds of the people of the region, acquiring prominent and esteemed position on the academic map of the University of Mumbai.
Educational institutions grow only with the massive support of the people of the region to which it belongs and as such, such a massive support could only be mustered if it fulfils or strives to fulfill their aspirations and obvious expectations. Surely, on this count, we could proudly say that we have mustered it and the progress it achieved and reputation it commanded are themselves indicative of it.
In its onward march, commenced with two faculties- Arts and Commerce- in 1974, introducing computer education in 1986, Science faculty Junior wing in 1988 and Senior wing in 1990, a post graduate studies in Rural Development in 1993, and introduction of professional self financing degree courses- B.Sc. Computer Science, B.Sc. Information Technology, Bachelor of Management studies in 2001 and subsequently vocational course- Agro Services in 2003 could be designated as the land marks in the development and expansion process.
