Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT), New Delhi formerly known as Delhi Institute of Technology, is an engineering college in New Delhi, India.It is an autonomousinstitution of the Government of NCT of Delhi. It formally comes under the purview of Faculty of Technology, University of Delhi.
Until 2009, NSIT shared its admission procedure and syllabus for B.E courses with Delhi College of Engineering, both of which were prescribed by the Faculty of Technology, University of Delhi. But with the conversion of Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) into Delhi Technological University (DTU), NSIT has become the only engineering college of the University of Delhi.
NSIT has continuously been featuring in lists of the top 10 engineering colleges of India by engineering education surveys conducted by bodies such as India Today, Outlook, Dataquest-NASSCOM etc.
In the year 1983, the Institute started with the academic programme at UG level in the area of Electronics & Communication Engineering with an intake of 45 Students under the Faculty of Technology, University of Delhi. New programmes in the areas of Computer Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Engineering, Manufacturing Processes & Automation Engineering were added subsequently. Administrative autonomy was granted to the Institute in 1986. The Institute was registered as a Society in the name of “Delhi Institute of Technology” (DIT) on 12th June 1987 under the Societies Registration Act No. XXI of 1860 (Registration No. S-17742 of 1987). The Institute initiated Ph.D. programmes in 1989 and also formulated a number of PG programmes, four of which were approved by the AICTE in the year 1994. From 1983 till 1998, the Institute was operating from its old campus at Old I.G. Block, Kashmere Gate, Delhi – 110 006. The Institute has been and is affiliated to University of Delhi for all its UG/PG and Ph.D. programmes.
The Institute was formally inaugurated in its own new Campus in Dwarka, New Delhi, on 23rd January, 1997 by Sh. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, then Prime Minister of India. The Institute was renamed as “Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology” (NSIT) in the year 1997 vide Gazette notification No. D.L. – 33002/ 97 dt. 20.2.1997.
Since its inception, Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT) (erstwhile Delhi Institute of Technology) has grown steadily both in size as well as in the scope of its activities. The basic structure of organization, functions and powers of the Institute are laid down in the “Memorandum of Association and Rules & Regulations” and the “Profile of Growth” of the Institute.
Campus Recruitment Programme conducted by the Institute is a very vital activity for the young engineers aspiring for appropriate placement in Government Departments, Private/Public Sector Undertakings.
A close interaction between the Institute and various company executives has created excellent placement record. The Students Job Co-ordinaters actively participate in organizing Campus Recruitment Programme. By sheer dint of hard work and dedication, the students of this Institute have reachedtop positions in the industries and academia. The Institute has an excellent record of assuring confirmed jobs in prestigious industrial organizations.
On the basis of records available students belonging to the Divisions-Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Engineering and Manufacturing Processes & Automation Engineering-who graduated in current year, almost all the students have secured firm jobs in Multinational companies, Private and Public Sector Undertakings and Government Departments with many students being offered mutiple jobs. Some of them have joined the Indian Institutes of Management and other Prestigious Institute for higher studies. Some students were selected by the top Universities in the USA to pursue higher studies in specialised areas.
So far a high percentage of our eligible students have been offered jobs by reputed firms.
The Institute is giving a great deal of emphasis for strengthening the Industry Institute-interaction as well as interaction with other educational institution and R&D laboratories both at the national and international levels.
