A BRIEF HISTORY ABOUT COLLEGE
A Government establishment, Bidhannagar College (BNC) is one of West Bengal’s leading academic centres. Established in 1984, the college is relatively new, as compared to many others of its kind. Yet, its growth has been quite remarkable, and it still grows towards making its potential actual. In the form in which it stands today, Bidhannagar College comprises 15 departments and faculties, Science and Humanities together. Degrees are awarded by the West Bengal State University.

The UG Honours Courses offered are diverse: Anthropology, Bengali, Botany, Chemistry, Economics, Education, English, History, Mathematics, Microbiology, Philosophy, Political Science, Physics, Statistics, and Zoology. The PG Courses offered at present are in two subjects only, Microbiology and Zoology.

Since its inception ( June 25, 1984) Bidhannagar College has lived up to its objective in the field of education in West Bengal. Changes have been many and quite noteworthy. Change of site has been accompanied by change in infrastructure and in affiliation.

The site changed from BF-142, Salt Lake, Kolkata-700064 to EB – 2, Sector 1, Salt Lake, Kolkata 700064. The change of site ensured change in infrastructure for the better. Starting with 52 students, the College has at present the in-take capacity of 350 students per year, the total strength being about one thousand (1000). No wonder, there could be more students in the near future for their higher education in this college as the six-storied annexed building gets ready for use, and the dream of multiple PG courses comes true..

Originally, degrees were awarded by Calcutta University. This continued till the 2007-08 admission. Thereafter, affiliation shifted as a matter of policy to the West Bengal State University.
